Diagnosis of Fungal Sinusitis; Is Fungal Culture a Must?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography (CT) paranasal sinuses (PNS) in detecting fungal sinusitis keeping culture as gold standard.
 Study Design: Cross-sectional validation study.
Place and Duration Study: Department Radiology, Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Jun 2018 to 2019.
Methodology: A total 323 patients either gender were included study (aged 10-70 years). All underwent plain CT scans sinuses, scan findings reported recorded on pre-designed proforma. Results then compared with report each patient respectively.
Results: Among all undergoing scans, 177 True Positives, while 07 False Positives. Out a 139 scan-negative patients, 6 (False Negative) had culture, whereas 133 (True no (p=0.001). Overall sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative value Paranasal 96.72%, 95.0%, 96.20%, 95.68% 95.98%,respectively.
Conclusion: is highly sensitive accurate non-invasive investigation sinusitis.

Presentation and diagnosis of allergic fungal sinusitis.
BACKGROUND Allergic fungal sinusitis (AFS) is a form of fungal disease that has recently been considered a distinct clinicopathologic entity. Other forms of fungal sinusitis include acute-fulminant (invasive), chronic indolent (invasive) and mycetoma (non-invasive). Objectives were to assess the presentation and to describe the diagnostic techniques for allergic fungal sinusitis in our setup. ...

Allergic fungal sinusitis (AFS) is a noninvasive form of fungal rhinosinusitis with an incidence of between 6 and 9% of all rhinosinusitis requiring surgery. Regional variation in incidence has been reported, with the southern and southwestern US particularly endemic. Patients with AFS commonly present with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, inhalant atopy, elevated total serum immunoglo...

Invasive sinus Aspergillus infection has been reported in the last decade with increased frequency, most commonly in the setting of hematologic malignancy, neutropenia, HIV infection and other states of immunosuppression. Fungal rhinosinusitis can be broadly classified into two varieties—invasive and noninvasive on the basis of tissue invasion. Invasive fungal sinusitis are acute invasive, chro...

Selection of appropriate specimens for culture and microscopic examination is based on the results of clinical and radiographic examination and consideration of the most likely fungal pathogen that may cause such an infection. Specimens should be collected under aseptic conditions or after appropriate cleaning and decontamination of the collection site and rapidly transported to the clinical my...
